I am looking to get a small loach to complete my 10 gal community tank that currently houses 4 Harlequins, 1 Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami and 1 Zebra Danio.

My tank is set up with plenty of aeration so I'm sure I can afford to add a small loach but need some advise as to what would work with the other fish. Also, as you can see from my list of fish above, I want to get a specie from Asia to keep within the theme.

So far I am interested in a Pakistani, Dwarf or a Zebra Loach because of their size, with the later two being the smallest.

Any suggestions or advise is appreciated.

First off, you need a some more danios, 4 or 5 should be good.

Dwarf loaches (AKA chain loaches) would be your best choice for a loach because
A) they get to 2"
B ) they come out when the lights are on
C) they aren't nippy at all
:)

Thanks for the advise about the Dwarf Loach... I'm probably leaning towards one of those. Thank you for pointing out that the Dwarf will come out when the light is on.... I didn't know that and it will help to make a final decision.

As for the Danios, you raise a good point as they do prefer to have companions to play with. Originally I had two Zebra Danios to cycle the tank and they did very well for a long time until a few weeks ago when I lost one of them. However, the remaining Danio seems to hang out with the Harlequins for the majority of the time and they all play and chase each other, so I have decided not to replace the lost one. There is also the issue of overstocking if I was to add a few more so I'll see how it goes over the next few weeks.

Thanks again,

F

I have to warn you.
as the danio gets older, on his own, he will become very aggressive and there is a very strong possibility he will kill everything in that tank.
please re-home him as 10 gallons is not enough to keep zebra danios in

Wolf,

I'm in the process of building a built in unit for a 55 gal and will be moving everything over to that, but it won't be ready for a few months. Would you advise getting a couple of Zebras in the meantime?

Thanks,

Personally I like khuli loaches, but the dwarfs would be a good choice as well

Thanks,
in that case, as long as it won't take months, yes

Kuhli loaches can be kept in a ten gallon, even though they get long (not HUGE just about 4 inches or so) the 1 inch per gallon rule doesn't apply.
