I just bought a 10 gallon and set everythign up now i want to know if i can buy rainbow sharks or are those not really a beginner fish?

rainbow sharks get a bit big for a 10 gallon
if you want a nice fish to start with id recommend harlequin raspboras, very pretty fish! B)

With a ten gallon, you'll have to resist the urge to buy some 'cool' looking fish that are small now but grow huge. Avoid iridescent sharks for one and bala's.....just examples. I agree with the above...good recommendations. SH

with small tanks i think its always best to have bottom dwelling fish, fish that mainly spend time in the middle of the tank and fish for the top of tank.
so maybe for the bottom of the tank 3 corys, theres many different colours and varietys.
for the middle of the tank maybe 6 small type of tetra.
and for the top 3 live bearers.your best is guppys and platys.but make sure to get 1 male to every 2-3 females.in this case it would be 2 females and 1 male.
hope this has gave you another option. :D

This would be overstocked for a 10 gallon tank. Even before the livebearers start breeding. Remember small tanks are less forgiving than big tanks.

I would say, take out one of these groups, and you are slightly overstocked, but not too bad. It is also perfectly possible to keep livebearers in single sex groups, though male only groups need to contain enough males (c. 5) to spread aggression.

Harlequin rasboras are a good choice, too. Or cherry barbs (2 females per male).
