I have a fish that is a fresh warm water fish, it is very small (1-1.5 inch long approx) and thin (sort of stick shaped). It is silver and it has a pointy mouth, and faint orange and yellow fins. This fish floats along the top of the water 99% of the time, and the top of its body seems kind of flat. Anything i can find on the internet that remotely resembles this fish is carnivorous, whereas mine is eating tetra min just fine, however one of my neon tetras is mysteriously missing in action so i want to ID this fish in case he ate him! if any other info is needed to make an ID plz post back and i'll tell u anything u need to know! thank you!!!!!! ~sar

Sounds like it could be some kind of halfbeak, any chance of a picture so we can confirm it?

hmm no i dont have a pic but that reminds me , the bottom part of his "snout" sticks out farther than the top, if that helps...hmm i will look up halfbeaks too and see if he looks like them........do u think he would eat a tetra? the tetra was not that much smaller than him!!

My first thought was also a halfbeak, but there are also a couple of goodeids that may match, or even a panchax. Difficult without a picture.

What have you looked at on the net so far that it is not?

>>> the tetra was not that much smaller than him!!

Doesn't seem very likely.

IT's A HALF BEAK!!!! YAY! thank you so much. Now to figure out where the heck my lil tetra went! uh oh! ~sar
