Well soon one of my 30 gallons will be empty and I am wanting to get some really cool fish. I don't want any livebearers but I am open to anything else. I've been looking on www.liveaquara.com at all the different types of fish but I am still stumped.

I've got 2 b-nose plecos that will be in the 30 gallon so I need fish that will be compatible with those. I'm not sure what my options are really as the b-noses produce a lot of waste. I need light waste producing fish.

All stocking ideas are welcome!! :D

Instead of creating a tank of someone elses favorite fish, how about doing this? Go down to your LPS/LFS, or better yet, go to several LPS/LFS and see what fish really catch your eye. Make a list of those and do a little research.

Also, consider your water conditions. I know if I were to start again, I probably would go for an African Chillid tank, simply because their water preference is alot closer to my water. It can save alot of headaches in the end.

But if you really want suggestions, I'd go for tiger barbs. They are my current favorite, are very active, are always in their school, and are just curious little fishies in genera.

My next purchase is going to be some Boesmani Rainbow fish (3 to start with) these are really colourful, do not grow too large and are peaceful with other fish.

Whatever you choose, as previously mentioned check compatability , water conditions etc to make sure you give them a good home as this will keep them healthy, fetch out their colours and increase your enjoyment also.

I'll be going to my lfs tomorrow. I'm taking in 25 swordtails that I've raised. I'll be able to trade them in for some pretty nice fish.

I'd love to get some cichlids but I'm not sure what my options are. I don't know a whole lot about cichlids. I've been reading up on them. I don't really know what can go with what? Are there types that can live in a 30 gallon? how many to get and how many males and females?

I love killifish but I haven't seen them at my lfs. I'm sure I could find them in some of the bigger fish stores though.

I want really nice bright colorful fish. John 5748 I looked up the Boesemani Rainbows and I must say WOW it's a beautiful fish. I've seen some rainbows in the display tanks at our mall. Not sure what kind they are though. I think they might be Praecox Rainbows.

I wish my lfs would take my fry off me, I have had to enrole my relatives into the fishkeeping family as they do not take fry for free never mind credit!!

I hope I run out of livebearers before I run out of family and friends

I'm so tired of raising fry it's not even funny  There's only 1 guy at my lfs who will actually give me anything for my fish. If I don't go through him the others who work there wont give me anything. Mostly I just trade in fry for frozen bloodworm as I go through it like there's no tomorrow.

I'm done raising fry now for a long time. I'm not saving anymore platies or swordies. It's taken me about 3 months to get my swordtail fry up to size where my lfs will actually take them. I am going to be very relieved once they are gone. I'm so tired of water changes and a million feedings a day  :S

Anyways back on topic...I've been looking at all the dwarf cichlids they all get to around 3 inches and it says minimum tank size is 30 gallons.

how about gouramis? Some are very colourful. Dwarf gourami is nice. I think it'd recommended to have 1 male and 2 or 3 females though and the females aren't as colourful.

Not sure you'd be interested in botia, they can tend to hide a bit, but you could fit 4 or 5 of the smaller botia in your tank? I love them, they have amazing patterns. And most eat snails which is a bonus in my books :)

If you were going planted, a shoal of cardinals looks fantastic.

But tttnjfttt is right, it's all about what you want. But there's some ideas to look into.

If you are interested in cichlids I would suggest some of the smaller cichlids from africa, more specifically an mbuna tank.

in my 29gal i did a pair of angels and some yo yo botias. Im gonna add some rasboras soon too.

I really like my setup like that.

Justa suggestion
