whats a must have cichlid that is colorful and peaceful for a 90 gallon tank with other fish in it plz i really dont no which 1 to get :kewlpics: are awesome but names r good to

"Cichlid" can mean a lot of things. What kind of fish do you currently have? How old are they? How big are they? What kind of environment have you created within the tank?

Also what are you looking for in your new fish? Personality? Beauty? Aggressive? Breeding?

Most important is that your new one can get along with your existing fish. Be sure to consider the size of your fishes full grown to avoid over crowding and proper filtration.

Lastly... remember... when asking 'what should I get'... all we can offer is what we would do if we were in your shoes... also know as... our opinions... and... as the old saying goes.... "opinions are like assholes... everyone has one and most of them stink"
*please excuse the language, I tried substituting it but nothing else maintained the umphf of the A word*

I agree with the nutcase.

If you wish I can list all the favourates right now and get it overwith in one post, but you can also figure it out quickly with a bit of research. There is no lack of cichlids you can put in that tank, so questions like nutcase just asked can help steer you in the right direction. Keep in mind 'peaceful' is a rarity with cichlids, you'll probably have to settle for 'less aggressive'.

Do you want one or two bigger fish, or a variety of smaller fish?
Do you want a species tank, or the high tension 'equally aggressive' cichlid community? Or do you want non-cichlid fish in it? Schoaling fish? Bottom feeders? Something else?
Do you want it planted? How were you thinking of decorating it? Or will you put off thinking of this until you choose the fish? (Are you building the fish around the aquarium, or the aquarium around the fish?)

Hate to sound like a broken record, but we need more info. There are soo many Cichlids to choose from.

I personally think one of the biggest joys of fishkeeping is researching and finding your own fish. It took me a while to buy a Jag, I researched it, and then looked for them in stores. I didnt ask anoyone online.

Part of fishkeeping is putting a little of your personality into your tanks.

im gonna say Rainbow cihlid at the moment because they have a little bit of everyones personality.

I hafta say... I have a festivum... and he's super mellow....

doesn't pick on anyone... well.. he does give the gourami a hard time every once in a while.

He gets really excited when I walk near the tank and always says hello....

he's in a tank with an angelfish, gourami, rainbowfish, platy, emperor tetra (who's a small-sized big-meanie), and a german ram...

Here's a link to the Central/South American Cichlid thread (includes pics):

There's a bunch of different species listed here - including the cichlids...
