As you may have read,my sailfin molly had about 30 fry last weekend of variuos colours
By the time I moved them to the fry tank on Wednesday there were only 16 left, all of whom are still going strong and all but 2 of whom are green
Im wondering what I did wrong?
I know I should have maybe moved them sooner out of the breeding net but I got a (false)nitrite reading on Mon from the fry tank so decided to wait a day or two.
Was the breeding net too near the tank light?
Was the fact that the bright orange and all but 2 pale orange died mean they were a weaker strain?
Could they have been too close to the filter?
Im just curious to see if anyone can suggest anything
BTW where is the best place in a tank to place a breeding net?
Thanks :)

I would place a breeding net farthest away from the output of the filter. You don't want the fry getting pushed around. It's almost inevitable that some fry will die, it could be due to problems since they were born, such as too much inbreeding(which causes deformities)

I'm sorry for your losses but their isn't always an answers, could of been anything from birth defects, weak sibblings, etc.

Alot of the fry will die off within the first week. Sorry. Good Luck with the rest tho rememer to keep tank clean and dont over feed the babies their tummy's are tiny!

Ta
It seems that it could have been anything
I was just checking to see if there was anything obvious which I could avoid next time--and with mollies theres always going to be a next time!
Also, when doing my water change this evening I discovered 7 fry among the hornwort including a largish black one so the fry tank is filling up nicely though Im not 100% sure what with :)
