Well i had three guppies in a 10 us gallon tank. Basically they all died within a 12 hour period. I checked the parameters and all nitrates, nitrites etc were fine. Before they died, i noticed they were staying to the surface, im not sure if thats a sympton of something.

Heres what i think did it, I put some plant clippings into the tank and experiemented with them. They were actually growing new leaves and roots and i thought it was a success. But now i learn that the plants are poisonous!

The scientific name is philodendron and it looks like:

Well there is your problem, they were most likley poisoned when clipped, but also staying near the surface is a low oxygen sign, just next time post a post on here asking before you put a plant etc. I always do just to make sure...

Hairy my RTBS jump out and become dry fish jerky :(

i think the best thing to do to advoid this is to NOT put any plants, clippings etc in to a tank unless they are sold as aquarium plants specificly.

Well, just because an LFS sells "aquarium" plants, doesn't mean those plants are really suited for an aquatic enviroment.
I love the look of Mondo grass, so I did some research (after buying three bunches of it!), so I could keep it alive and healthy. Turns out, it's not really aquatic...or even amphibian! A couple websites say it'll eventually die after a month or two, no matter how much lighting, CO2 and fertilizers you give it.
Guess I'll just stick with Java Fern and Frill.

I suppose this is good advice, if you're really into plants and can actually tell differences simply by sight.
"If it looks like a household plant that should be potted, it probably shouldn't be in your aquarium."

I also had 4 guppies, and one by one they all died :-( Over a 4 week period, i dont know what was wrong, as i thought these were pretty easy to keep? :/ Maybe my ammonia was too high? I dont know....
