One of my zebra danios has a large red patch behind it's gill; it's hard to tell, but I think it might be swollen as well. He also has (I think) missing scales! There are verticle stripes that look like bare skin on his sides(these are somewhat jagged and his back looks like it has a somewhat large bare patch too) One of the other danios has similar markings like this, but smaller and not so prominent.... I quarantined the fish with the large red patch in case it's something contageous, but he seems somewhat distressed being alone(schooling fish) Should I put him back with the others? Should I quarantine that other danio with the bare stripes? How should I treat these conditions?

Also; one of my other danios is much thinner than the others and he doesn't come up when I give them pellets(though he sometimes shows interest in the plec's food) He does eat the freeze-dried blood worms- I suspect he may be addicted. He also doesn't seem to be schooling with the other danios. What should I do?

Sounds very much like ammonia burns. What are your water parameters?

Ammonia?
Nitrite?
Nitrate?
PH?

Also what do you feed them?
What size tank are they in?
Did you cycle the tank?
What types fish are in the tank?

Also what do you feed them?
Tropical fish flakes and occasionally freeze-dried bloodworms. (there's also sinking plec food)
What size tank are they in?
10 gallons (US)
Did you cycle the tank?
Yes- according to directions found on these forums
What types fish are in the tank?
There is a bulldog plec(he's only 2 in. right now and when he outgrows this tank he'll be moved to my 75 gal)
Other than that there is just the six zebra danios. They were going to go into my 75 gal but I decided to wait until they get bigger so they aren't picked on by the bigger fishes...

I can't get a new test kit until payday. My current one is out...

Sounds very much like ammonia burns.
The stripes or the red patch? The red patch has now spread to both gills :( I'm very worried...

x.x The fish has died.

The red patch was under the gill and grew rather large before spreading to the other gill. When both gills had the red patch he was gasping for air at the surface of the water...

I don't think it's gill flukes but I'm not completely sure...

No that's not it...though I have seen it before. How depressing...
