I posted a thread a while ago about our male ram picking on our females, and we ended up putting both females in breeding nets till he calmed down, and he outright picked the youngest female. They spawned not long after, and we put them in their own tank. They did all the right things, fanning the eggs and just guarding everything. Unfortunately, once the eggs had hatched, we never found fry. They got on well and everything was going so well. Her ovipositor dropped about 3 days ago and her belly started filling up with eggs. :) At this time, he started digging pits everywhere and cleaning every inch of the tank, so it all looked good. But Saturday he just started ignoring her. :/ She'd swim by and do her dance and brighten up, but he'd chase her away and eventually bully her something terrible. :X She spent most of Saturday at the top, with us keeping a close eye incase things got out of hand. Yesterday it looked good again. She was digging pits and they were both doing the dance, but towards the afternoon, they were on the farthest sides of the tank and he'd just bully her everytime she tried to get his attention. This went on all night, till it got too much for her, and we had to put him in a breeding net. This morning, she's lost all the eggs and her ovipositor has started going back in. What is wrong with him???? They've spawned before and the other female ram is in another tank, in another room. He never spawned with her.

All fish have different personalities. Most things that are written on care sheets, etc., are for most fish of that species. They are like humans, some just aren't nice.

Thanks Barracuda55

He does seem to have a bit of an attitude problem :/ We kept him in the breeding net over night and then her the following night. They seem to be back to normal in the relationship department and we've left the breeding net right next to the tank as a reminder to him of what will happen if he starts picking her on again  He hates it, shame. Hopefully third time lucky. They have a new terracota pot and some slate which they've taken to cleaning constantly, so hopefully in a week or so we'll have a successful spawn. If he acts in a nasty way again, then we'll just have to separate them permanently and give up. :S
