hope this is the right place to post!
 my young female guppy cant swim straight-by this i mean she looks although she has got a weight attached to her tail and her tail is to heavy for her body.no other symptoms,no purtruding scales spots or ragged fins she otherwise looks really healthy! she does on occasion swim around but this is a great effort for her.
water if fine all zero (amo & nitrite) and nitrate is 10.
any ideas??

this is common with old fish, or dose the spine look bent?

it does a little but it right at the base where the tail begins, the rest of her spine looks fine. she is only about 5/6 months old?

But did buy from a shop or breed it your self?

The problem being if from a shop u dont know how old she is, or if u breed her then she may not of have the right diet causing this problem, as at 5-6 months she'll be producing fry now and this could exaggerate the problem.

i bred her myself along with many others on the same diet? they are fed flake food, green stuff i.e cumber peas etc and blood worms as a treat. funny u should say that cause i have just had another litter of fry and i really think it could be hers,i was acutually wondering if she is having trouble givin birth cause she is doing the classic tail down 'sitting' postion they do just before they drop?

If she's had fry then she may of course be puttering everything into developing the fry thus she's suffering.
This dose happen from time to time.

Just the runt i guess, so keep an eye on her if their nothing wrong with the other fish.

she is now in a hospital tank.think she got a fungal infection

i have a few platy fry that developed a bent tail, they are all surviving for over 5 months now and doing very well. infact i found one yesterday in my filter who knows how long he's been there and he is doing fine eating swimming etc :D

glad to here they are ok!! they can be pretty tuff cant they! :good:
bad news for dotty im afraid (my daughters choice of name!). from what info i have been able to source it seems that she has an internal baterica inferction and fin rot -which is secondary.have treated her and dosed with salt as directed.cause i treated her for fin rot cant treat with anything else yet. any advice greatly recieved!

was thinkin along the line of maybe doing a 50% water change then treating for the internal bacteria? i fear it may be to late-she is practually standing on her tail now :-(

i dunno why you are using salt for your treatment. i would of gotten a fungus cure medication read the directio carefully and make sure you remove the carbon from your filter. can you post some pics of her??
sounds like you may have to put her down. Iny my case i have owned livebeerers for over 3 years now. I have found if you do not clean the water atleast once a month they will eventually get illness. of course there are also many other factors like tanks size, stock, how long it's been runing, how often you clean, and what kind of water you using to clean more and more :p

Good luck. try the emergancy section if you need quick response.

i have treated for fin rot as staed in last post which is why i cant use any other meds at the moment. aquaruim salt or tonic salt -has been used for years to work along side meds and fish keepers i know swear by it! i do think that she isnt going to make it but will see how she goes. how do you put a fish down? have tried to get pics but will try again just came out blurred.thanks for your input and will post in emergancy too!

Oh my, I'm so sorry.
If she's having trouble swimming, could it be swim bladder issues?

took a picture & video down to my lfs -who i must say has been running for years and i really trust him(his an independent store not a chain!) and he said that she has got an internal problem but looks although it is affecting her swim bladder.so advised to carry on with salt and see what happens but did warn me that she could go on some time like this but could/would proberley evenutally die as there is nothing you can really do.and as i said i do trust him as he could of sold me a whole heap of lotions and potions! he also agreed that she has got a bit of fin rot but is secondary. since doing the salt yesterday and up-ing the dose today she does seem to have perked up a bit and even ate a few brine shrimp! she has refused food for last few days so it a little improvement!
will just have to wait and see!

Potions and lotions and salt, oh MY!
Poor fishie. I wish there was a magic potion/lotion for every illness.
I'm sorry she might not make it. All one can do is try, right?
