I have had my current tank for a while now and have rotated the fake plants i use in and out. trying to get the perfect amount of plants that wont overstock or make my aqaurium look overstocked. But all the pics of aquariums that i see have much more plant in them than mine i just have two. should i put more in there or should i leave it? I have three male guppies, one female guppy, two unknown lyretail mollies, a puffy dalmation mollie, a see threw fish, an apple snail and an algea eater.

Have you got real plants in there as well or just fake plants!??
The amount of plants is really up to you although they are very useful for shelter and food as well as oxygen and so on if the plants are real.
Some plants are heavily planted some are not....it's really up to you as far as I'm aware.

Welcome to the Forum!

Your question can only really be answered by your own taste i.e. what do you want to get from your tank?

Most of the guys on this forum (myself included) will prefer heavily planted tanks. These involve a bit a hard work; research etc. and some outlay for equipment is normally necessary i.e. extra lighting, fertilisers and CO2. Cost is what limits a lot of us but it is possible to keep a well-planted tank on a budget with DIY CO2, dry fertilisers etc.

If you want a "decent" planted tank like some you see here then you've come to the right place for advice. A good place to start is to read the pinned articles at the top of this forum and just browse through the threads.

As for "what is too many plants?", that is in the eye of the beholder. My tank (in my signature) is virtually 100% covered in plants but most would agree that it is not too many.

Hope this helps.

I have all fake plants. i tried the real plants for a bit but they rotted and made my aquarium stink. so i went back to the much easier to care for plastic plant.
