I've not seen this before, and I certainly didn't buy it. It forms long threadlike runners (10 cm or so) with a distinctive, alternating pattern of paired "leaves" all along the runner. These little leaves are about 5 mm long. On some of the pairs there is a single blister or pod of some sort. This plant forms tangles around larger plants, but otherwise floats.

Anyone know what this is?

Cheers,

Neale

How interesting - but nope no idea. Looks weed-like to me at a random guess :)

I could be mistaken but as far as i know this is some sort of carnivorous plant ie. some sort of bug eating plant, but i could be wrong, i cannot remember the name of it.

I thought the same thing- carnivorous. It looks to me like an aquatic bladderwort (Utricularia species). You could ask at www.littleshopofhorrors.co.uk. They are specialists in carnivorous plants so maybe they could help?

lol
Would that be an Audrey 2 :D

Im going with a bladderwort of some type, cant say which one but a google image search found some things that look a bit like this, especially the small blobs on the sides

You know, I thought of bladderwort, but the bladders (if that's what they are) are really small, we're talking smaller than a grain of salt. But it sounds a plausible answer, perhaps coming in with some of the livefoods I collect from the pond.

Thanks for the ideas so far! I was amused because it's quite common to get mystery things in marine tanks, but how often do we find such things in a freshwater aquarium?

Cheers,

Neale

don't know but we found some in my fellas tank last night, bit of a coincidence!

The bladders are so small because they trap tiny (microscopic) water creatures as opposed to larger bugs.
