What Is This Stuff?

I posted this in the planted section too but haven't had any replies.

I recently received a bunch of random plant bulbs in the mail, they've been in my tank for a few days and only one of them has sprouted. Several of the others have strange white/translucent stuff growing on them, it seems to be emitting some kind of gas since bubbles are accumulating on and in it. They aren't planted in the sand since I didn't have much time when I dumped them in.

Does anyone know what this stuff is? And is it safe, since I'm getting fish tomorrow?

I've had this before too. It's some kind of fungus. Harmless to fish but it might indicate the bulbs are dead. It's been several years since I've come across it but I think you can remove the stuff and let the bulbs sit for a little while longer to see if they will sprout.

Do you mean remove the bulbs from the water or remove the stuff from the bulbs?

hey kraken, he was saying to remove the stuff from the bulbs. and let the bulbs sprout (hopefully) in the tank
