What is this monster?

Looks similar to my Pogostemon quadrifolius 'Octopus' that I have probably something else though.

If you mean the tall plant as a single stalk that looks like pso.

Pogostomen stellatus I think. I have it in most of my tanks. Very versatile plant.

As a bonus when grown without a top it will breach the surface and produce a nice purple flower - though in truth it is best grown as a bush and seems to do much better emersed long term.

Muddy, I agree it could be pogo stellatus. I'm pretty sure I had it for a while. It either died out after a while, was too happy or got a bad case of algae & I removed it. I had something called "octopus" but I thought it was a strange tall twisty sword...another plant I gave up on.

@gwand, you mean you've never had mystery plants? That's part of the fun of my plant club. Like Forrest Gump said about a box of chocolates...you never know what you'll get Or if they'll grow well.

Thank you all for your input- I am going to trim that guy and replant the trimming. Will see how it goes. I love my Limnophilla Aromatica beside it, but this thing grows faster and looks like it might not get the bare stalk on the bottom as it grows up- I don't enjoy replanting that stuff all the time to keep leaves on the bottom. I do it, but not my favorite. Maybe they'll invent a light that sends light into the bottom of the tank on the "jungle floor" LOL.

If you turn it into a jungle like this the fishes love hiding in it and if you have an open top then the best is yet to come.
