What Is This In My Tank?

This is my first post so first I'd like to say hello. However i do have a situation in one of my two tanks. The tank is a ten gallon with 3 platies and two otos. The problem is there have been a ton of short black tubes showing up in my tank. It is not waste from the fish because it multiplied way to quickly, i siphon vacuum 20% of the water twice each week an a ton of it showed up on my last change. The tubes area less than half 1cm long and i'd say there were over 500 of them. Any insight to what this might be would be appreciated because it is really irking me out. Thanks

The objects in my tank did not show any sign of being alive. I don't have picures because i just cleaned my tank about an hour ago and disposed of the water. The tank filter does have small chunks of carbon in the filter inserts. Also worthy of mention, the tank is newly cycled and i added the otos three days ago.

it may be small pieces of carbon breaking of and coming out of the filter
