what is this fish?

i have 5 of these fish in my pond that my dad got and i want to know what they are called so i can do a bit of research on them...

They are Rudd, nice healthy ones too judging by the golden colour on the flanks.

yeah they are well fed fish... my dad spends most of his free time up there looking at them

also... you see that plant in there with the fish, could i use that sort of plant in a tropical tank?
