I went to a small pet shop the other day and saw these small preditory fish that kind of looked like needle fish but had smaller noses but did have a narrow body like a needle fish. the store owner told me the name but it forgot, he said the stayed less than a foot long and were closly related to halfbeaks, does any body know their name or have any additional info?

If they are closely related to half beaks then they wouldnt be any of the pike characins like Ctenolucius hujeta (blunt nose gar) or Boulengerella species. Xentodon cancila (sliver needle fish) http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=41749 is the only traded Belonid species but these have a long thin tooth filled snout.

To be honest from the desription it sounds like its most likely to be a Ctenlucuis hujeta and the lfs worker just doesnt know what hes talking about, check this link to see thats the fish http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/c-hujeta.htm

long tongs fish> i'll look up the scientific name but if it is than they get to like 2 feet or so
