Hi, new to the forum as I have a bit of a problem. I was given 2 plecs some time ago, from someone who I am now no longer in contact with. The fish have bred and I have 31 lovely little babies, far too many for me to keep. The local shop says they may take them but I need to know what species they are. I think they may just be bristlenoses, but anymore information would be good.
Sorry about the blurry pics. Thanks.

Looks like the common type of bristlenose to me. All i know about them is that they are easy to breed in home aquariums.

It would probably be easier to ID if you could reduce the pics and make them clearer.

Moat of the BN's in the trade are hybrids of one sort or another so they wouldn't have a true species name. Ancistrus sp is the closest they get.

Yeah i agree they are most likely bristlenoses, where abouts do you live in the world and what town/city? There's a buy/sell section on here if you wanna check it out, i've been wanting bristlenose plecs for ages now, so if you live in england in or near somerset...

Hi, thanks for all the responses, thinks it's safe to say they are bristlenoses. Phoenix, I live in Hemel Hempstead in England, north of London, so if you're ever passing... :D

Got a much better pic now.

Out of interest, I'm hoping to swap them for some other fish at the LFS. Don't really mind how little credit they give me as tbh they're doing me a favour. How much can I expect to get for these guys, 25 will be on there way to the shop?

We supply ours to our lfs (well, did until we moved)
we used to get 75p per fish (at about 20mm) but expect offers around 40p... see if the store has some first - if not they may pay more ;)

Nice one, that's just the sort of reply I was looking for, thanks :)

Just dont look at the price they will sell them on at....

you would get a couple of £ each, selling them on aquarists classifieds but its easier to take them to the local shop...

we've just setup a 4ft tank (180l) with 6 in to breed... along with some endlers :)

Bristlenose plecos are great at cleaning up your tank. As you probably already know. This is the reasong why they are so in demand. If your LFS doesn't give you what you think your bristlenose are worth, go somewhere else.
