Found this whilst trimming the moss back, it has very strange movement, its less shrimp like than the photos show.

It's very strange.

I have caught it and put it in a jug for now as i am not sure if it's safe to keep in the tank.

Can’t you see it’s a mermaid?;)

In all seriousness though it looks like a dragonfly nymph

They are definitely harmful. I have had some in my tank and they will eat small fish... These are damselfly nymphs and they are super hard to get out. How in the heck did you get that one out?

Agree with the above. What fish do you have?

It was on a large piece of moss that i cut off, managed to catch it in a small net.

There are rummy nose tetras and blue shrimp in the tank. If they're harmful i'll remove them.

Its not an if their harmful, its they are harmful and they have to get gone... Seriously they are insane monsters and I had to be violent to remove mine... It was that bad

Thanks, one went down the sink time to try and catch the other!

They're hiding in the moss, i bought some plants a couple of weeks ago i assume they came with the plants

Thats exactly where they came from most likely.

Baby dragonfly or damselfly. They are predators and eat small fish, shrimp, tadpoles or anything else they can catch. They also get eaten by bigger fish. Take them out and let them go in a pond or creek. If you don't have one nearby, put them outside in a bucket of dechlorinated water with some plants and let them turn into dragonflies or damselflies.
