I am new to fish and want to know what the best thing to feed tropical fish is? I live in the U.S. and have a few community fish and one male Beta in my 10 gallon tank. Any pointers would be great.

I really depends on the dietary needs of the fish you have. If you could post what fish you have we could give you more choices. Betta's are generally fed Betta Bites, they are pellets (Hikari is a good brand), or Tetra puts out a flake that's good for them. Tetra, and Hikari have some good tropical flakes for a staple food. Most community fish can also have fresh/frozen blood works, daphnia, brine shrimp, and some blanched vegetables. The more variety you feed, the healthier your fish. Like I said if you post your stock we can be more specific.

It's also suggests to watch bettas closely when the are in a comunity tank to make sure the other fish aren't nipping their heavy fins or they aren't attacking the other fish. Worst case scenario, he may need to go in his own 3-5gal tank. My apologies if you are already aware of that, but I'm sure others will mention it.

And welcome, to the forum.
