What Is The Best Substrate For Tank.

I have had my fish tank for 3 weeks now,did a water change last week 50%.I have small stones/gravel for substrate,but have noticed that it is getting very dirty looking and full of debris,the gravel,not the tank.I was going to try and clean it tomorrow.But could anyone recommend another substrate,which would not be so awkward and fiddly to clean in the future.

sand its easier to suck up the poo and stuff as it cannot fall through gaps (like in gravel) and wont rot. Also looks better IMO. you jst hold a gravel vac above it and it sucks up the poo and dirt but not the sand.
