does anyone know the name of that plant that grows on the bottom of aquariums like blades of grass? theydon't look like they get too tall, just a few inches.

There are several plants that fit that description. The 2 easiest to grow are Echinodorus tenellus, the Pygmy Chain Sword and Sagittaria subulata - Dwarf Sagittaria. Chain Sword is a little more demanding then Dwarf Sag., but both are pretty easy.

There are a couple of Eleocharis species that are very grass like, indeed, they are called "Hair Grasses". Also Lilaeopsis species, particulaly L. brasiliensis form good lawns. Unfortunaly, these plants require really good lighting and benefit from CO2 injection, they are not really beginners plants.
