What is required for german blue rams? Do they need rocks? Plants?

I'm planning on getting a pair to breed.

26-29C temperature (and many people swear by 28C) with low variance, so take care when doing water changes. Low nitrates, low hardness and a stable pH. Zero nitrites and ammonia. Smooth flat-ish rocks for spawning and plants to break line of site. Varied diet with things like a decent cichlid pellet, frozen or live foods and some vegetables.

Obviously, you'll need a male and a female too.

edit: and about a 20g tank

Meguro got it!

they need a mature tank to go into, not a new tank so it has to be running for a while. 0 amm 0 nitrItes. they like caves etc, slat surface to spawn on. 20gallon minimum. they like live plants (mine do) they like warm water, i have mine in 28C

i feed mine bloodworm, shrimp, sinking pellets, dried protein granules, courgette all other things :good: beefheart is meant to be good aswell!

The tank has been set-up and running for 4 years. It's 30g and being shared with an angelfish.

Do they like planted tanks or just a few plants to hide around?

i have alot of plants, to make it interesting and to break their line of sight up a bit =]
