I bought 4 palties about 4 weeks ago. In the bag with them was a baby - basically just an eye and a tail really.

This is the first tropical fish tank I have had so am no good with telling what babies are. It is now about half the size of a neon but starting to go a brilliant silver/green/yellow colour in its tail and this morning has the tiniest stripe of the same colour apearing down its side.

It is a lot flatter backed that the platies and completely the wrong colour. The only thing I can think it could be really is a guppy. It is quite slim with a paddle shape tail and an upturned mouth. Have never seen a baby guppy so am only guessing

Is there anything else it could be?

the uptured mouth sounds to me like mollies or guppies and going by the colouring id say it was a guppie

I'd agree with Guppy. The coloring on the tail definitely points to that, as does the paddle shape. :)

Have had a friend come round and have a look and I think all agreed that is a guppy.

It is generally swimming with the platies - should I get some guppies for it to go with? - will it even know it's a guppy if I do? It's surely has never seen one before!! -
