Lately in all 3 of my tanks I've gotten an infestation of whatever it is. The best way to describe it is it's fluffy looking white to light beige. It looks like cotton or filter media. it is on the sand in one tank , gravel in another and on the fake plants in the third. What the devil is it and how do I get rid of it?

i asked more or less the same and here is thew answer

I have two plants in mine, ones a fern which is doing good, the other i dont know its name....but its red, and its definately not looking too good, the leaves are turning green.....which i presume will then go yellow and then brown and fall off. Maybe it doesnt like the heat i have it at whilst cycling.

This thread should really be in the planted section but some answers as far as I can tell from descriptions.

To the OP plants often get a fur coat of algae even in tanks where people are really high tec and add ferts, CO2, Nutrients, have ideal lighting and also ideal substrate, so if it looks like fur then I wouldn't worry too much.

If you want to get rid of it naturally then ottos, bristlenose plecs, shrimps and mollys can help you get rid of it or at least keep it under control.
