I was in Petco today and noticed little petal looking things floating on the top of a plant tank. They had little roots coming out of them, and the petal looking things themselves are about the size of a pencil eraser. I did ask the girl working there what they were and she said they were just broken off leaves of the plants in there. I refuse to believe this without a second opinion. So, what is it?

Duckweed, maybe? I had some in my five gallon betta tank -- it multiplies quickly. It can become a nuisance, too!

Ah ha! That's what it is! I knew that it wasn't broken off leaves. Now I gotta get me some! Thanks! :)

I'm guessing that it will be eaten by the fish...?

None of my fish have ever eaten it. Gosh, many years ago (hmmm...like over 20 years ago) I had it in one of my guppy tanks and it ended up covering the entire surface!

Nah, it's all gone. I think it aggravated the betta as it got in the way when he tried to eat his pellets!

I bet the store would scoop some out for you the next time you stopped in.
