I have
1 "diamond head" neon tetra. The only infomation I can find is here the pic they show is of a neon tetra, I think? The scientific name given is the same as for the normal neon tetra. Anyway my 1 "diamond head" is very much like a neon but there is no blue line running down its body.
My question is; Is this a normal neon tetra with a colour mutation or is is a true variation of the neon?

BTW he schools with 5 "normal" neons and my 1 lampeye panchanx (others died:()

I just called the LFS where I saw those, and he also gave me innesi. :/

He did say that they are definitely wild caught.

I think those are beautiful fish. They had theirs in a heavily planted tank, with black sand.

$7.49 seems high. The ones I saw were $3.99, or 5@$15.

here is a very bad pic, the fish in question is ringed in red.
You can just about see the diamond shape on his head, hence the name.
And no it is not NTD!

Hi Danio,

They are a True Variation from what I remember from Work, We have had them in for ages.

We have also had some that were Injected and called Chocolate neons.

They are very nice fish, and would probably be on my wish list If i get another Tank.

Thanks psgill00
I will look out for more of them.

I got 6 of them months ago when I set up my 30g. They have all survived Ich and a move to the 56g so I would say they are quite tough little buggers :)
Mine also school with the other tetras, whether they're neons, glowlights, etc.

One big happy family :D

(I got mine for 59p each as they were mis-labelled as neons)

I have today brought 6 more and the diamond/ neon school looks great

Try and get some Green tetras to go with the school Paul. They're the ones with just the electric blue stripe, no red, and they look green under some lights.
It makes a really nice effect when they're all together :D

Green tetra? do you mean Paracheirodon simulans the "False" neon tetra?

 Don't know the latin name just that they are sold as green tetras and they are identical to a neon just blue/green & silver - no red at all :dunno:
