My cories fins are...being nipped..i think there are ripped fins..

is it the meds? for ick? i dunnno!!! AH

EDIT: ok time to calm down...

all of the sterbais have riped fins..nothing big, but one has a really bad case, i also change water every 4 days since that is the instrustions for ick medication

do i have fin rot? what is fin rot like?

Since the corydoras aren't in your sig, where are they to begin with? Tank mates? Ich meds the only chemicals in the tank? COuld it be finrot (are there growth or white patches on the fins before they "shrink"?)

My cories don't have fin rot then, but my clown loaches do! my tank has so many problems!

Ok i plan to treat for fin rot after i finish dealing with ick, it never comes off! the meds dont sem to work!

my sig is outdated..

my 55 gallon tank has...

8 sterbai cories
3 julii
2 elegnans
5 small clown loach
8 zebra danio
1 small plec
2 discus
4 sparkling gourami

Are your discus diseased too! Oh man.

If possible, get the discus in a nother tank and get them as stable conditions as possible. if not possible, then do the best you can to cure them without stressing them out.

Are you following the procedure in the pinned articles on this forum?

You're not mixing the chemicals, so that's a good thing.

No my discus are very happy..they did have ick but it was VERY easy to cure, it is just my clown loaches, the spots just dont come off! all my fish are cured..but 3 of my clowns.. -_-

no it is not possible to get my discus to another tank, should i move my 5 clown loach to my...1 gallon tank and treat them with ick meds? :/ (no ick is in the water...) just i am just wonderin, i am desperate to cure my tank..

1 gallon is far too small. :/

As long as you are upping the temp and using the meds, that's all you can do. If it doesn't work and the temperature is at 80F, try raising it to 85.

temp is at 80... is it really ok to bring it up to 85..i am scared... :( and i dont want to kill all my fish! around how long should i keep the temp at 85?

yes, discus like temps in the 80's so they should be fine. I successfully cured ich on my clown loaches but it took a long time. I lost 1 but 3 survived. I used Quick Cure but only used half dose because they are scaleless fish and keep the temp up at 80 or over - it helps the ich fall off the fish faster. Also, if there is ich on any of your fish, there IS ich in your water. good luck. know it is horrible to see the clowns with ich. use some Melafix after they are cured to help heal their skin and fins. I have also read that you can cure ick by completely darkening your tank for a few days with a blanket - absolutely no light. I have never tried it.

I found this ich cure on another forum. Maybe you can try it too.

"Total darkness is not absolutely necessary. I would cover the top & sides of the
aquarium with newspaper, leaving a few cm open at the top. Turn off the lights.
Check your fish every day. When you see the white spots disappear then clean the
bottom gravel. High temperature speeds up the life cycle of the parasite & give
the parasite less time to find a new host before it dies. Gravel cleaning will
remove many parasites. Dark tanks seem to prevent many parasites from finding new
hosts.

On corys, tetras and loaches I have had success by using malachite green at 1/2
dose + 2 drops/US gallon (1 drop/2L) of formalin when the parasites start to
drop. The next day I do a large water change. The formalin is very hard on
delicate plants, however. "
