Here's the situation. My PH level of my aquarium is going increasingly more alkaline at a rate of about 0.4 every 2 days. The aquarium contains fish that only appreciate acidic water and so when the PH rises from 7.4 to around 7.8 they start to becoming irritated, lose their colour and appetite.
The only other things in the tank are numerous plants and a fake ornament which I didn't think could change the water PH.
I desperately need to know what is causing these 48 hourly PH swings. I'm really getting fed up now as there appears to be no answer to the problem.
Any help appreciated.

- I have removed numerous sodalite rocks from the tank as they turn the water alkaline.
- My substrate is sand named 'Caribisea Instant Aquarium Torpedo Beach' which the manufacturer confirmed to be PH neutral.
- I have turned my airstone off as my guess is that it depletes carbon dioxide levels (carbonic acid helps to maintain a lower PH.
