what would you suggest the best way of heating half a dozen 12x8x8 tanks in a row would be.
i was thinking heat mat but what would that heat them up at? would they all be different? how do i control temp. and would the polystrene under the tank still allow heat through enough.

The simplest way is to heat the whole room, of course.. but you might want to look at the NeWattino heaters, I used to use them for tanks that size. There are two models: one just heats all the time (which is not the one you want) and the other heats to 25C (which is the one I used).

NeWattinos are small in-tank heaters.

it would cost a fortune for the heaters for all tanks. im only paying 8pound per tank brand new heaters are double that and i was hoping to have about 10 of these set up . thats why i was thinking heat mats?

How are u filtering them as if they will all be linked to same externaly couldnt u use an eternal heater?

I'd set up a sump tank and stick 1 powerful heater in the sump that way the heated water will get pumped from the sump to the tanks and the cold water back into the sump for reheating. if you stack the tanks then the natural heat rising will warm to some degree the tank above. This is the way i have a couple of my tanks set up

id be totally lost on how to do this could you explain a bit more and what exactly to do as never used sumps etc before

Basically the aim is using one tank as your filter, you can either drill the tanks so the water goes to the sump or use a siphon method to get the water to the sump, in the sump the water will pass through various stages of filter media before getting pumped back into the tank.

There are some pretty good videos on youtube, keep looking through the videos because some of them will talk you through the set up step by step
