I live about 30 minutes from a river that runs through a national forest. And I was wondering if it was possible for me to take some plants from the river and put them into my aquarium.

By National Forest do you mean a recognized national park? If so, I'm not sure about the states, but up here in Canada taking plants from the river would actually be against the law.

Well, if I were to take some bog wood, and maybe some common grass. Would it be compatible with an aquarium?

Common grass? Probably not, there are plenty of grass-like aquatic plants to use instead though.

I"ll vouch for that truth... (the original one - not so sure about the ensuing story... !! ) Truly is illegal. Cannot take a single thing out of a National Park that you didn't arrive with.

Better hide that moss and bog quick if you hear a knock at your door......

Just pay a kid 1$, lol. They would get a slap on the wrist if they got caught, and you could deny any knowledge of knowing them. Just remember to wear gloves when handling the cash lol.
