As you can imagen, there was a serious conversation about what if mermeaids existed? Thiss in chatroom and we talked of how they could be kept in a tank or should they be pets? So what do you think? How large of a tank would be needed? Should they be with ither fish, should they rven be in tanks? Would they have intelligence of human or fish?

More importantly, how do they breed?  I've never been able to figure that out about mermaids.

I think if they where kept in tanks they would have the capability of escaping, so mermaid probably would escape if kept in tanks..

Plus you'd need a setup where they can get out of the water to sit on rocks etc....

Bit like a large crab setup :D

I had a dream some nights ago that i had a mermaid in a tank. Well this is a coincidence. She was really small, size os a veiltail betta and was freshwater. It was so cute.

Mermaid keepers should be advised to keep tanks sealed so they can't hear the mermaid's sing and therefore won't be lured to their deaths. Mermaids are fully carnivorous and will attempt to snack on their owners, specifically of the male variety. Combs must be provided for the maintenance of their long, shimmering hair.

For further information, watch Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

Then the glass or acrylic has to be sound proof.....can acrylic br sound proof?

I'd sooner be eaten by a mermaid than watch that again :p

Its entirely dependent on which half of the body is the fish/human part. Top-half fish could be a self contained tank from the hips upwards. Wouldn't need WC's but would need an aerator. Bottom-half fish would need at least 2000L+, an Olympic sized swimming pool at least. Not very frequent WC's, but are social creatures and would need a shoal of at least 15 (increasing the size of the pool required).
