I used to keep guppies and recently tried them out again, I took every step correctly in creating their home, they didn't make it 2 days, no signs of illness just looked the morning of day 3 and they were lying on the rocks, very much dead. i NEVER had problems with my past guppies, they used to be the healthiest of all fish in my opinion, lots of sites i've seen even say they do NOT recommend having guppies in a community tank. and i've seen posts on the net of people saying the guppies available today are becoming rather picky about water conditions. i've heard the only healthy guppies available are the ones raised by breeders, i don't know any breeders though, and i'd like to keep them again, guppies are an old favorite of mine.

i'd like to hear some opinions from any of you that keep guppies!

I think it was caused by way too much inbreeding. I have a teenage guppy fry and it eats so much, I feed it crushes falkes twice a day, and some peas once a weeks. Im might buy 2 more female guppies in a few months due to my fry being male, and I think ill try to breed them without inbreeding so I can have healthy guppies. also, try buying guppeis form differnt stores to be careful of inbreeding.

One word: Inbreeding. Everyone wanted them so "fancy", so that's what happened. They became more and more inbred to get fancier and fancier.

I think ill try to breed them without inbreeding
That's pretty much impossible, because most any Guppies you get at any store are very inbred already. You can keep them from inbreeding more, but you won't get non-inbred Guppies. If you want to make hardier Guppies, cross them with Feeders.

yes defo to much inbreeding, neons, zebra danios and a few other once upon a time quite hardy fish are now all far far to sensitive to water changes and tank mates...thats my opinion of course,im sure a few others will agree/disagree :p

Well when i said ill try to breed them without inbreeding, I meant ill try to get wild ones and i might throw my one guppie fry into the mix, but i dont want to spoil the wild ones......
