Um actually that pic isn't taken for the pet trade. These are commercial suppliers of chicks for the chicken farmers, the egg and meat industry and they just dye them with harmless vegetable food dyes every year at Easter, just for the fun of it. Unlike dye-ing fish, it doesn't harm the chicks, non invasive. Now if it was a gimmick to sell chicks to civilians as Easter novelties to be discarded later then I'd be furious, but THANKFULLY in this case it is NOT. (saw a tv blip on it) Now if somebody IS dye-ing them for other reasons SHAME on them! But this really is an innocent photo. For once. Probably the ONLY one out there eh?



And yeah you could do it with computer photo shop too, add the colours. But I'm pretty danged sure this is that company that does it every year for Easter for the heck of it. I believe the film clip was on Daily Planet....but not positive, not with my 54 year old brain!

actually, these are for sale in some non-chain petshops here in the SE US. however, there's a pretty large agricultural base (in my state anyways) so even those people who don't directly have access to a farm generally know someone else who does.
