I was wanting to do some tank maintanence when i noticed my kribs just layed eggs. They all were there for a day then half disapeared. After that they slowly seemed to disapear. Now there are none that I can see but the female still somewhat guards the cave however she swims free aroudn sometimes and seems to be slightly fighting with the male. Do the eggs fall to the ground or do the fry hide in the gravel for a few days? Is it safe to start cleaning gravel? Is there still a chance I will see the fish in the next day or two?

Thanks again guys.

Who else is in the tank? Sounds like they were eaten. They may have fallen into the gravel though.

The plec might have ate them while on the prowl for some veggies. :good:

She also may have eaten them because a lot of the mother cichlids will sense a threat in the tank and just eat the fry because she figures if someone is going to get the nutritions it may as well be me.

Take the other fish aout and put them in another tank, then take some black curtans or black paper and cover all sides of the tank so she cant see other people( you and other visitors), only disturb them when it is time to eat.

I only have one tank. Ive heard that the parents put the eggs on the ground when they have tails and have to wait for the egg to absorb before they are free swimming. I also heard they need practice at breeding so it will maybe take a few times. This is only the second attempt the first being over a month ago.

well to anyone that cares: after a week of wondering where the eggs went when they slowly dissapeared one by one i finally have fry. There are six very small boddies at the bottom with the mother who finally came out of the cave. they dont move very far from the gravel yet, this is so enjoyable

now how long till i can do the gravel change business?/re arange the tank, when is the best time for me?

If you do a gravel change( depends on how dirty the tank is) do it as far away from the babies as possible. Oh, and congrates on the krib fry!!!

gravel change not cleaning, im taking it all out and putting the undergravel filter in adn brand new natural color rocks instead of the blue/green/purple in there now so its hard to do it far from the fry
ill wait till theya re a bit bigger
