afternoon peeps

something strange happened last night  , first I noticed that my swordtail was very very fat and had a black triangle behind the bump and I remembered that, that ment she was up the duff, well I had bought a birthing, floating thing when I bought the fish as I was told they bred like rabbits so last night I caught her(not much fight to be caught) and put her in the tanks thing and said "goodnight wee fishies" well this morning she was nolonger in the floating thing and she was nolonger fat... :hyper: now I couldnt help thinking that it might have been a dream until my hubby pointed out that I had insisted on showing him my fat fishy so it wasn't a dream and the tank was well out of the water at the top and there was the plastic lid thing above the floating thing, so I dont get it... surely she wouldnt have jumped it, I know she didn't like being in the thing... also what are the chances of any if there were any of surviving? :-(

kiss kiss

ps before anyone asks no there wasn't a hole in the floating, birthing thingy. :*)

have a look aorund the tank and see if there is any fry.is the fish in the main tank?

I haven't seen any but I have quite a few plants and big rocks in my tanks so loads of hiding places and no there isn't any in the birthing thingy...

I've had a lot of swordies jump out of the breeding net... hopefully some of the little fishies are hiding and they will turn up soon.

She also could have aborted, as tragic as that would be. But, if she's all right, then no worries. She'll produce more for you.

i sat and watched the tank today and saw nothing... so I don't know what happened its very X files'ee how she got out is still a mystery as the top of the birthing thingy was sitting against the plastic protection thing on the tank so how she jumped out still is unclear...

another strange thing is I have a few live breeders and well my tank water is perfect yet still after 6 months there is still no sign of preggy fishies this is the 1st the that came to nothing.. why is this??

One of my female Swords' jumped clean out of a small bucket I put her in when I was moving. There was a good 6 inches between the top of the bucket and the water surface. Luckily I noticed her in time but she could have been out of the water for upto 10 minutes for all I know. As I was draining the water out of the tank, I found my Sword' had fry I didn't even know about and found three of them that I'd estimate were around 3 months old. With two adult Uaru's in the tank at the same time, that's quite an achievement.

So it's possible if there was no kind of lid on the breeder, or with a good run (swim) up, it's a jumper. The breeders are not really ideal for adult fish because of the stress factor. She may have eaten the fry, sad but it happens.

At the moment I've got a few platy fry in my tank. You'd be surprised where they can hide without you even knowing! I put the two I found in a breeder net (no beds available in the hospital tank at the mo). One went 'over the wall'. The other platy fry...not quite sure...but when I came home yesterday...my betta had jumped IN to the breeder and the platy had 'vanished' :byebye: (wonder where it went)
