What happened to our guppy?

My mother had a female guppy that had been looking pregnant for practically 2 months. This morning she called me and said the guppy was looking rather square-ish and that the other 2 guppies (1 male, 1 female) were picking at her. So she moved the other 2 guppies into another tank. 4 hours later, I come to my mother's to check on the guppy and she's already dead, stuck to the filter intake and with a giant mass of what looks like eggs stuck to her bottom. Any idea how this happened? She had been fat for a pretty long time and it seems kind of strange that the eggs within her hadn't developed during this time. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First guess is that she was holding eggs. Alot of fish will hold fry till death. And I have seen what looks like they are holding eggs to. She just was not into breeding with the male. Secong guess the tank whent south while she was preggy and killed the fry inside her, which in turn killed her. Third guess. Your male is no good, she was makeing eggs for him but he was not making anything for her. But with her hoping for the act of breeding she over made the amount of eggs.


Also look at the fact females can hold sperm for months to breed on, so if they can hold it till they need can they self control rather they get preggy or not, I have done some reading on this with some saying they and some saying no they can't they just make eggs and the sperm is there for it.
