This may not be quite the right forum, but i knew i'd get people who actually have them here. I am looking to get a pair of these guys for a 10 (US) gallon in the future and I'm curious as to what other folks have in their tanks, if anything, that might fit in the 10g.

I fully accept that the answer might be nothing, but it never hurts to try :)

The answer really is no. A 10G is fine for Shellies but nothing else. What Shellie were/are you intending on getting?

I hadn't quite decided. I'm still doing research on them, but i found a very good store that has multis for sale right now, and has others upstairs in the fish room spawning. L. ocellatus (i believe is how it's spelled), and quite a few others whose names i didn't catch. I'm leaning more towards the ocellatus, though.

[edit] The reason I wasn't sure if this is quite the right forum for the topic is because i didn't mean just cichlid wise (i know i can't fit any other cichlids in it), but if there was anything along the lines of a surface dweller that anyone here kept with their shellies.

but i'll also entertain any recommendations you guys have as i've never had them before. The only cichlid i ever had was a socolofi (powder blue) who eventually had to have his own tank because the store i got him from didn't tell me he was going to claim the rock in the tank and proceed to kill anything that looked at it. but live and learn, that was many years ago, back when i first started. I love cichlids, but they certainly aren't my specialty

thanks for the site, mamafish. it's certainly clearing things up. I was having some trouble finding real information about them :S
