What Fish?

Hi there, I am hopefully nearing the end of my fishless cycle so I am beginning to think about what fish I can have. My tank is only a 23 litre tank so obviously I could not add lots but I would like a little selection of fish to spice things up a bit!
 
My only weakness is not knowing what fish can live together, but I know that I would like a siamese fighting fish as I think they look stunning. If I went for one of these what else could I put in the tank with it and how many could I add?
 
If it is recommended that the siamese fighting fish is left alone what other group of different fish could I have instead?

For a tank of that size, i'd only recommend just a betta with some nice live plants.
 
Not a lot of options really in terms of stocking, I have a little nano tank as well, 22l and have endlers, orange cherry shrimps and malaysian trumpet snails along with live plants and fine black gravel substrate with small pieces of bogwood.
 
These little nano tanks can look stunning with a bit of careful planning and research.

A betta, and maybe some shrimp? (don't quote me on the shrimp, I'm not sure how they do with a betta)
