Hiya,

I have a small (approx 55litre) tank which is going to be my bedroom tank. I would like some small shoaling fish to keep in it that are hardy and relatively easy to maintain. I would also like some variety in the tank and a small algae eater. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Depends what you mean by algae eater? If you mean a pleco, be careful, you'd need one of the smaller species....
Most algae eaters aside from plecs won't make a noticable difference to the algae in the tank.
Have you cycled the tank yet?
If you have slightly acidic water i'd look into danios or white cloud mountain minnows;
Danios are very active fish and fun to watch.
WCMM aren't so active unless you have a decent current from your filter, but don't need heated water.
Theres loads of algae eaters...
Loches, plecos; both tend to be good in acidic water and theres a few that'll take an unheated, although not coldwater tank...
Where do you live, not to be a salesman :nod: but i've got a few fishies i'm trying to get rid off that might be suitable...

I'd recommend 10 black skirt tetras, 4-5 oto cats and 3-6 cory cats...

I don't agree with the 4 platys as suggested earlier, this is because they are live bearers and they'll most likly breed non stop...

mid swimmers like small barbs or tetras are probably your best bet. and if you're looking for algae cleaners, otos would do the job.

I disagree sometimes the smaller algae eaters are more keen on the algae and eat it more cleaning your tank up. you will need at least 5 though

I'd compare a loach to a vac and a pleco to a spit polish, i've had myplecos clean every bit of tank decor to an almost brand spankers level, my loaches however keep it down but don't completely remove it.
Do your loaches remove it completely, what are they??
