Hey,
I was just wondering if anyone knew any good fish that weren't platies to go in a fish cycle to get my 25 galllon up and running. I have done the fishless cycle before anyone asks.
I hope to go to my lfs today if my parents oblige so answers soon. I would like to put some gouramies or neons fif they would be good.
Thanks in advance,
:good:

I'm confused, why are you fish cycling it if you've already fishless cycled it? Did the cycle crash?

Well, i did a cycle without fish and it worked and now i want to put in some hardy fish to see how they go whetherthey survive or not. Does that help?

Good question ;)

Assuming this is a different tank then the two fish you have mentioned are a no no! Both need an established tank. There is alot of debate on fishless cycling verses cycling with fish and I sit somewhere in the middle. The only fish I would ever concider putting through a cycle are Danios but it has to be your choice.

Are you talking about adding your first fish to a newly cycled tank? If so Danios are still my recommendation

Zebra Danios were my first addition to my fishless cycled tank and the tank was given 4 days between each successive addition (except the loaches, which got 5 months)

However, as your tank has gone through a fishless cycle, if you dont want any danios in your tank anyway (i.e. you dont plan to have them as part of your tank), a shoal of neon tetras (which you do want) would be your best one to chuck in first - wait till the next batch for the gouramis.

The neons, while not recommended for a fishy cycle, I personally believe a re a good fish to start off a tank that has been nofishy cycled.

not if he has properly completed a fishless cycle like stated!!

Why bother fishless cycling if you are going to hardly add any fish at all when you finish and let all the bacteria you have grown die off? Seems pointless. I fully stocked from the day I finished fishless cycling and have only suffered 2 fish losses, one of whom seemed to have something wrong with it from the start.

from what ive found, adding each different species of fish a few days apart is better for the stress levels experienced.

If your tank is cycled, go ahead and put what fish you want in it. If it is not cycled, then throw in some danios until it is. Or you could get a pack of bio spira for about $10 and add that when you add whatever fish you want. That stuff will cycle the tank, so it won't matter where it is in the cycling.

I wouldnt personally make such a factual statement about cycle products, even Biospira. Going by your description, I could place discus in a tank that has not been cycled, but it ok if it has biospira in it....
