What fish to get?

hey i take care of the family fish tank and its 5 foot in length. We have about 100 guppies (self breeding went crazy) but had split to another small tank. Right now we have 6 discus and 15 guppies in the 5 feet tank. We were looking to buy new fish because the tank right now looks abit boring. Any suggestions on what fish?

Any good combinations that go with discus? I was thinking of getting some angel's and tetras.

you could get angels theyd go ok in there but theyd eat the tetras and might rip off the guppes tails and i think the discus could eat the tetras

some cardinals would look nice with the discus and the cardinals would make the discus feel safe so I've read the discus wouldnt eat them but the angels might

Why not?

It depends on the angels. The reason it's often discouraged from keeping angels with discus is that angels can carry a parasite that they're immune to but that can kill the discus. That said, if you're getting your angels from a good source that you trust, a discus/angel tank can be GORGEOUS!!!

but....untill you get rid of the oscer.....he'd be the only thing in that tank....

One of the problems with keeping discus & angels is eating habits. Angels eat like pigs, discus are more of slow grazers.

Hexamita is the protizoan that discus are sensitive to, many fish live just fine with it, sort of like the bacteria in a human's digestive tract. It doesn't cause a problem until the fish is ill or stressed, than it can get out of control. Discus, being more delicate fish, are prone to this, as well as other diseases that won't bother other fish.

I don't like to medicate well fish, but in this situation I would. Quar the angels for a month, feed brine shrimp a few times a week with metronidazole sprinkled on it. This will rid the angels of parasites that may end up being harmful to the discus, as well as letting you observe the angels for any other problems.
