Hi all......I have recently purchased a 25 gallon tank we recently hand gold fish. But i found very hard to keep the tank clean.I wanted to try freshwater tropical fish as i have heard they are much easier to look after.I dont know what kind to get or what fish are commbatible with eath other.I wanted to get a comunity tank going.can someone give me some advice. tyvm :)

Any ideas what you like?

Livebearers are a good place to start. Guppies, Molly's, Platys, Swordtails to name but a few. Keep either the males if you don't wan't fry. But the fish breeding is half the fun of fishkeeping.

A tank should have a few 'dither' fish. Most tetras are good for a start. They need to be in a shoal. Maybe 5 to 10. Neon tetras are the classic tropical fish and still look great even though nearly everyone's got them.

Cichlids are a great type of fish, angels are the classic tropical fish too, but they will make a meal of small fish like neon tetras.

This list is not exaustive by any means and i'm sure more people will have suggestions.

My best bit of advice, what i did. Research, research, and research some more. Read books, get fishkeeping magazines, visit fish shops and see what they have and talk to the staff. The shops that have time to talk and really seem enthusiastic about the fish are the places to go.

Tetras make a good addition to any community tank (6+), Also for the bottom/lower level of the tank how about cories? Be sure to keep them in groups.

I dunno about other tetras but neon tetras should only be added to a tank that's 3-4 months old at least, else they'll most likely die.

Yes tetras I agree are the best when it comes to small communitys, Also if you're looking for a center piece fish you could go with type of killifish, I currently have a male Fundulopanchax Gardneri Lafia (pic of him is my avatar) and he's not in a community but from everywhere that I've read it says they're good with any fish thats not big enough to eat them. They are kind of rare but if you did some hunting you wouldnt regret it.
