I have a 90 gallon reef tank and want to add fish eventually. My broblem is I travel a good amount on the weekend, long weekends and occasioanally a week to 10 days. My question is, what kinds of fish or inverts can I add to the tank that can rely on themselves for food for these durations?

I really would like to add tangs, clowns, and maybe a star fish.

Is this do-able or will I need a fish feeder?

Tangs are my favorite fish and if your gone awhile you'll need to grow algaes and palnts to keep them alive so you basically can feed your own fish and clowns well mine eats everything plants frozen food dry food. But also you need someone to fill your sump while you're gone or your pumps will burn out =(

Tangs would be a bad idea if you ask me... They need more food than a tank with low amounts when you're away. You'll NEED an autofeeder and have to ween your fish on to flake/pellet that can work in the feeder for sure if you're to be successful. Also, you'll NEED an auto topoff mechanism. 10 days without freshwater topup while using a sump is a recipie for disaster.

Avoid tangs, butterflys and angels as they all have a high metabolism and will suffer without food for 10 days. Most other fish like damsels and clownfish, hawkfish and dottybacks will be fine for a week or so without food. Most inverts will be fine as well. The main thing is to feed them well when you are home. My fish get fed several times a day when I am home and then go for a week or more without food.
The other option is to avoid fish altogether and just keep corals and inverts. The majority of corals will live indefinately with just light, no extra food needed.

If you have a decent coverglass on the tank and sump you will have very little evaporation and you should be able to go away for a week or two without needing to get someone in to top up the sump with freshwater. Using a bigger sump will allow you to hold more water in the sump and this will reduce the chance of the pump running dry. Also the sump design will play a big part in this.
But get some covers for the tank and sump and monitor the evaporation over a couple of weeks. Do it before you go away and you should be able to tell if you are going to have problems.
