I'm in the process of setting up a small community tank (75L / 60x35x30cm) and so far have 6 mountain minnows and 5 pearl danios. I've been thinking about what my next addition will be. I intend to put a dwarf gourami pair in once the tank is better established but at the moment the tank is fairly new so holding off on that for now.
At the moment most of the fish tend to head towards the top of the tank and ideally I'm looking for something that will wander about more or stays lower.

In short I'm looking for something peaceful that will get on with my existing fish and gourami's, has some bright colouration, is a middle/bottom dweller (or will go anywhere) and is reasonably robust.

Any suggestions?

remove the pearl danios as they should reach 8cm and will need a tank far bigger than you have.
just stick to wcmms or add another similar sized fish, like lampeyes (AKA normans kilifish/lampeye kilifish)
or any of the small rasbora species (Microrasbora or Boraras.

most certainly forget about the gouramis

I'm lucky enough in that if and when any fish I do have out grow my tank, I've got a potential home in a bigger tank lined up for them.

That said, surely a 2 foot tank doesn't confine me to tetras, minnows, rasbora's and killifish?

it is not just the size of tank to size of fish, other things come into consideration,
such as activeness, aggression, territory and group size,

perhaps a pair of dwarf gouramies may work, then again perhaps they may not.
as you are lucky enough to have a larger tank then you have the option to move them if it all goes pete tong.
so try it and see
