What fish is this?

Hi...I posted this in the members pictures section. Anyone know what fish this is? It is silver with black and yellow markings each fork of the caudal fin and a red bar down the side. SH

Yes they are pretty common around my area, expensive too, they are red line torpedoes, but I think you have a different kind as I dont recall the yellow tips

Try it as denisons barb or as above - price 18-25 pounds depending on size - I really want to get some but they shoal so 5 or 6 min and I cann't justify the price

Thanks so much and sorry if anyone took the post personally as per the pro/moderator help issue. The dealer at my store didn't know the exact I.D. but the fish was selling for $39.00. In person, the fish is extremely colorful and a good swimmer. Thanks for helping me I.D. it. SH

Your fish is a "Powder Blue Surgeon" - Acanthurus Leucosternon from the Indo -pacific region.

No expert but it`s in my book with an almost exact picture to boot.

OK..thanks to all here I was able to look up this fish. Apparently, some websites list this fish as an endangered species. What are some views here about purchasing 'endangered species' if they are for sale in your lfs? Pros or cons? As fish that like to school (er shoal?), 6 x $39.00 will probably keep this beautiful fish out of my tank for now. Thanks for your opinions. SH

according to the IUCN red list
Puntius denisonii is not on the endangered list
there are 24 Puntius species listed including the cherry barb.
