What Fish Go Well With Convicts?

I have 2 male convicts about 6-8 months old (father and son pretty much)


I have a 30 gallon tank....and I want more tank mates.


What are some good active, very intelligent fish?

How about Blue Acara, Firemouth or Rainbow Cichlids? An Oscar would need more room., but intelligent and entertaining.

Other Convicts. That tank isnt really big enough for more than 4 convicts as they need lot's of room for territory, and they get BIG. My male was around 7 inches big.

If they are both males they will fighting. I had 3 males once( asked for 1 male 2 female, havent ahd them before so didnt know anything about them) and they gave me three males( dont know how that heppend, how do you confuse a male from a female) and they fought to the death after about a week. I took 2 back and bought 1 female.

Nope. If anytihng, get 2 females, so you can have 2 pairs, but nothing else.

1 pair of Convicts are all you want in a tank that size, any other Cichlids will get bullied if they decide to pair up...



You got add some Rainbow fish or Giant Danio as dithers, but thats about it...


a small Pleco (bristle nose or clown) would also be okay.

I've got a Firemouth and two Green terrors in with my convicts and the orange algae eaters and not had any probs

What size tank though?

In a 4ft at moment as the green terrors are only about inch and half and the firemouth about 3 ". But obviously tank will go up in size as they get bigger.
