Goldfish and sharks always seem to come worse off in tank size, usually far to small tanks there put in.

I have noticed that Bettas quite often get a raw deal (especially the males) by people buying them because they look really pretty without realising their requirements.

Most fish that grow to over 8 inches get a raw deal in tanksizes, very few people bother to buy tanks which are wider than 12 inches to provide enough turning space for larger fish, remember that most fish need a minimum swimming space of 4 times their own length long by 1.5 times their own length wide, ie a 12" fish requires a tank with absolute minimum of a 48x18" footprint.

I would say that cichlids in general tend to get a raw deal, people always look at size of the fish without considering aggression levels and/or territory disputes.

Goldfish deffinately, Silver Sharks and Black Sharks also.

There are many fish that get a raw deal. When i'm selling fish to the uninformed customer i try to get as much information as possible out of them before deciding if they are suitable for that fish. It's amazing how many people i have to tell that they can't have gibbiceps plecos or silver sharks or Oscars!...

And how about this one "Can i put a Nemo fish in my tropical tank?".... I bet so many people have tried and then wondered to their horror why it has turned belly up within 10 minutes....

I agree. I used to keep golds in a ten g (4) and didn't realize they required 10g per each one :/

They should really change the bowl's name from "goldfish bowl" to "death jar"

at my lfs someone asked if they could keep 15 neons in a 1g......the employee kicked him out (he was a street punk, making trouble) :p

rams and convicts, always put in 10gs

I think common plecs get a pretty bad deal, so many people think they can live and mature in a 10gal and you see so many 10gals with them in on here with the newb's when they first come onto the forum :/ .

Most of the above. As CFC said, anything over a certain size is a prime target. People like to have lots of fish in there tank, which obviously results in some horrific tanks. Things such as 'my tanks got 2 sucker fish, 10 neons and an angel fish, it looked empty so i bought an oscar to fill in the gap'. Stupid, but I'm sure its happened.
