What Filter Would You Recommend?

I wanted to know which filter to choose

My sister inlaw is going to set up a 20 gallon fresh tank. And I was wondering how people rated the ones I mentioned. I have aqua clears but she wasn't sure which one to use.

I use aquaclears.. They are my favorite.. A 150 or i think its now a 30 is good for a 20 gallon tank.. Whatever filter is good for filtering up to 30 gallons.

I would say use the penguin biowheel filters from Marineland. I have one of these on one of my tanks and love it so much I am going to buy two more for my others. You never have to change the biowheel and TONS of good bacteria can live there. Its also very quiet if you get the newer ones (they have a cover over the biowheel) and keep your water level up.

I have all of them and the loudest one is the Penguin, no matter how high the water is its still loud. But if you dont mind the waterfall sound then pick that cause it is the best.

i would choose aquaclear for the media capacity

You never have to change the biowheel and TONS of good bacteria can live there.

actually, there is about the same amount of bacteria on a bio wheel filter than there is on any other filter if the tank is stocked the same.

Well you must have one of the older ones because they made the new ones quiet, mines quiet unless the water gets below the output then it makes the spalshing noise.

Nope I have one of the new ones, its the Penguin 350b. When the water goes around the wheel you can hear it, not when it comes off the output ledge, as long as the water is high enough. I have played around with it many times and yes it is quieter with the plastic hood on but its still the loudest one I have, I cant even hear the others especially with the penguin in the room.

Well I have the same thing and it doesn't make any noise, but it doesn't have any bio-wheels in it yet so I guess thats why it isn't making any noises.

Most of my hob filters are Aquaclears. I have a few odd penguins & tetra, some other brands. The ac's blow them away. I abuse the he!! out of them in a breeding setup, the others choke when used the same way.
