hi, after taking out the activated carbon out of my systemised tank should i change it for anything? or just leave it as empty?
(note it said to remove it after 3 weeks so i did)

i never keep carbon in my filter all the time, i only use it when i need to. you could try putting some poly in there if its just to fill space, or you could go for some bio mats. up to you. personally i would add the poly, will keep ye water nice and clear, and you can change it for carbon when you need to. Tho with out knowing what type of filter it is i cant say.

in the end its upto you m8. :D

the carbon came with it and it said to take it out after 3 weeks
and what edxactly is poly?

carbon expires after 3weeks - a month. carbon removes bad things from good water i.e when you overdose on meds, or get colouration in your water. if there is nothing for it to remove your wasting the carbon.

poly is polywool, it somtimes comes in pad forms for the more compact filters, but its just basically a real fine filter media that removes all the teeny tiny bit that you normal filterpads dont catch (with em being small and all). its not expensive stuff its about £2.00 for a decent size box of it. its up to you m8 depending on what you system needs more, more bio media for more of the good bacteria, or poly wool to make you water look "polished", or you could leave it empty but IMO its wasted space :D
up to you m8.

Or you might find it named "filter floss" or "filter fiber". Pretty much allows for biological and mechanical filtration (forming nitrates and catching big particles), and does not perform chemical filtration, which is pretty much unnecessary.

hmm well ive got to go shopping tomorrow and oh conviently the local is opp even if its a petsathome
so ill prob pick some up then and got for the polywood cuz my waters quite clean

I think what we're missing here is what kind of filter you're using. I'd always suggest going with media that enhances the biological filtration of the filter. Letting us know what kind of filter you're using, would also help us determine if the position of the remaining media in your filter needs to be changed also.

kk its a built in systemised bio wheel one (the one with the water wheel at the end,) it has the blue mesh like block of filter at the start then a space (where the carbon was) then the biowheel and drop
